Antec Overture Page « 2/3 »

Inside the case

Inside

Naturally the inside looks different. It has been a while since I worked with horizontal cases. Well, Overture is a modern version of an old model.

The inner driver bays are in the back of the case, right in front of the fan. You can find this a rather wise place, the fan blows out the warm air away from the hard drives. The drive rack is modern. It has space for three drives. Each screw spot is surrounded with rubber plugs which should block resonation. It's the small things that count. You can detach the rack by opening two screws.

The 5.25" drive rack hasn't anything special, just a normal rack for two drives. I'm sad not to see any resonation blockers here. There go the small points ;) You can also detach this rack; it doesn't even require screws because there is just a clever switch.

PSU

Filter

The power supply is an interesting issue. It is a first-rate Antec Truepower 380W PFC which differs quite a lot from normal. Firstly, the fan blows to the inside of the case. The fan is on the "wrong side". It is right next to the power cables. This is a very interesting solution. Never have I seen the fan blow IN to the case. The PSU gets its line current through an "adapter" cable which goes in the bottom of the case and ends underneath the fan. On the other side of the PSU there is a filter. This should avoid dust getting inside the case. The solutions made with the PSU are rather odd and I don't understand them 100%. The PSU cables are basic stuff, 7x Molex-, 2x FDD-, P4-, ATX-, AUX- and 2x FanOnly-connectors. The heads are black which look stylish in my opinion. At this point any PSU tests won't be done and we will rely on the reputation of Antec.

There isn't much extra space for the main board but enough anyway. I assume that people who work a lot with hardware won't choose Overture for their main case anyway so space isn't needed as much as normally. There is quite a thick bunch of cables coming from the front panel. The USBs, Firewire, leds etc need power. I personally hate installing these little cables with my thick fingers but you've got to do what you've got to do. Who could live without the cool blue led surrounding the power button?:)
